The paper aims to analyze the phonetic-phonological properties of Vlasta Cenić’s collection of children’s poems Bate će se ženi (2010), written in the Prizren-South Morava dialect of the Prizren-Timok area. The analysis focused on the most significant features of the phonetic and phonological level. The analysis was primarily conducted from dialectological point of view, but linguostylistic features were taken into account as well. The structural specificities of the dialectisms were examined in relation to their literary and artistic value. Only the most prominent examples of phonetic-phonological features of the Prizren-South Morava dialect have been extracted from the text. Both vocal and consonant systems of the Prizren-South Morava dialect were examined. The most important results of the research within the vocal system can be summarized as follows: the Ekavian reflex of the former jat, the devoicing of vowels in the third person plural present tense, and the reflex lu in place of the vocal l. Among the consonant characteristics, the following stand out: the use of the affricate s, the removal of the sound h, the replacement of l at the end of the syllable with the group -(j)a, numerous examples of affricatization, as well as various consonant clusters formed by assimilation processes. From a stylistic perspective, the extracted phonetic-phonological dialectisms represent a type of phonostyleme, i.e., a method of phonological defamiliarization. Different types of phonostylemes were found in the corpus: restrictive, adjectival, transmutational, and substitutional ones, which indicate a strong stylistic markedness of the text. By applying a broad range of phonostylistic techniques, Cenić creates expressive and vivid expressions and thus, in a unique and convincing way, conveys to the reader the authentic atmosphere of his childhood. The conducted analysis has shown the deep-rootedness of Vlasta Cenić’s poetry in the native dialect and the desire to preserve dialectal expression. Only through the use of dialect can the author convey the atmosphere of his childhood in the countryside. The author’s motivation to use dialect in a literary work is the result of his personal, intimate need to express experiences and feelings typical of the local realities, for which the standard language lacks appropriate means.en_US
