This paper deals with ways of conceptualizing the idea of hope in English language. The aim is to explore metaphorical expressions and source domains used to conceptualize this emotion. The theoretical framework of the research is based on the Conceptual metaphor theory; the research is cognitive‑semantic. Metaphors which represent the source domain of HOPE are chosen because of their unique properties that distinguish hope from other emotions belonging to the same category. Therefore, hope is considered to belong to a special category of emotions – “intellectual emotions”.en_US
