Abstract: © 2018 IEEE. This paper deals with the analyses of a three-phase synchronous generator with an inset neodymium-iron-boron permanent magnet rotor. This rotor structure produces an inverse saliency effect meaning the quadrature-Axis reactance is greater than the direct-Axis reactance. As a result of this effect, the generator produces reluctance-Torque, improves mechanical robustness and field weakening capabilities. The paper presents some characteristics computed with Finite Element Method (FEM) and highlights some aspects of its performances: Air-gap flux density distribution, cogging torque, reluctance torque, electromagnetic torque.
