Abstract: © 2016, Springer International Publishing Switzerland. By the rule, the object of the safety analysis is the technical system, for example, production or transportation, as the mining machines or their technological equipment are. The maintenance operations, up to present days, haven’t been investigated as the subject of safety analysis. However, as the practice of the technical systems maintenance shows so far many maintenance operations contain causes of danger. It means that it is useful to analyze such operations from the safety standpoint. From the standpoint of the mining machines safety, it should be stressed that in some researches, the expression “specific” is used for the critical maintenance operations. Therefore, the safety analysis of maintenance operations should precede the stage of maintenance operations. The possible approaches to the safety analysis in the area of maintenance on the basis of the method Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis are presented in the paper.
