Abstract: his paper shows an overview of the investigation of various structural elements of the aircraft mechanical failures, as well as frequency of certain failure mechanisms. The specific problem of aircraft air-cooled piston engine cylinder head fracture is presented and the plan and the aim of the research were presented in order to develop a methodology for the integrity assessment of cylinder assembly. Within the planned research it is necessary to perform an experimental analysis of the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 242.0 at room temperature and elevated temperature, as well as the numerical analysis of the cylinder assembly. The expected results of the research, as well as the final considerations related to the significance of the research are presented.
