Abstract: The main purpose of the work is to reexamine the symbolic representations of travel, nature and Africa in the novel Onitsha by J. M. G. le Clezio. In other words, in the paper we will present the mentioned performances and, with an analytical approach, reexamine them both as separate entities and as interconnected phenomena that constitute the narrative as such. A novel about boyhood, family, travel and Africa, also opens up the question of the identity of the main characters who experience their metamorphosis due to the agony of colonial rule. Although independently dominant, symbolic representations of travel, nature and Africa are often fused and cannot be analyzed in any other way than in synthesis and interdependence. Such a perspective of consideration opens Le Clézio’s novel Onitsha to symbolic complexity and innovative reading.
