Title: | Novije tendencije tvorbe reči u savremenom engleskom jeziku |
Authors: | Jerotijevic Tisma, Danica |
Issue Date: | 2013 |
Abstract: | The paper investigates the latest trends of word formation in contemporary English. After a brief introduction into the history of word formation processes in English, the paper presents the conducted analysis of the examples from the corpus. The data were obtained from the latest edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. It may be suggested that the most productive processes of word formation are derivation, compounding and conversion, yet back-formation, reduplication and clipping should not be disregarded either. The paper likewise underscores the increasing influence of acronymy especially in internet communication. Prefixation remains rare, which confirms the hypotheses derived from more exhaustive research on word formation in contemporary English. |
