Abstract: In the paper we highlight the most important characteristics of intentional clauses within the codes of law and legal acts of the Principality of Serbia printed during the fi fth decade of the 19th century. We have come to the conclusion that the intentional clauses are introduced, in most cas-es, via semantically unspecified, contextually conditioned conjunctions da and kako, and in fewer cases via the archaic complex conjunction kako da. Complex target conjunctions are appearing sporadically and only in their developmental stage. Intentional clauses within the introductory parts of the documents entail ideologies and contain the information concerning the motivation behind the establishment of a specifi c legal act.
