Abstract: The aim of this paper is to give a list of names in the Shorthand Notes of National Assembly, which took place in Niš in 1898. The end of the 19th century was a period when giving child a foreign name was not so popular. It is expected that a large number of archaic names is to be found in the material. The number of traditional Slavic names and Christian names is equalized. The names of traditional Slavic origin consist of two parts. Also, a large number of traditional Slavic names is morphologically derived. Christian names are divided into two groups: names of Biblical origin (from Hebrew and Aramaic) and names from Greek and Latin. In the material, a small number of names of vague meaning is found. The names have been analyzed syntactically and semantically. Also, the paper contains an analysis of women’s names and abbreviations.
