Abstract: In this paper, we primarily examine the presence and function of floral motifs within the entire poetic opus of Jovan Grčić Milenko. We also try to point out the floral motifs that were part of a ritual and which are extremely present in Grčićʼs poetry. Due to the fact that nature is an important part of the poetic being, it follows and permeates the life of the poet, so we began by explaining and considering the presence of flowers as a part of nature, because it signifies most of his poetic opus, but also as part of the ritual of manʼs primordial connection with nature which has never been broken. Since we have been researching floral motifs, we especially emphasized the symbolism of flowers (such as roses, basil, snowdrops, violets, peonies) which are mostly represented within Grčićʼs poetry, and we interpreted the significance and function of the wreath in the collective as well as for individuals. Based on the corpus used in this research, we come to the conclusion about the exceptional presence of floral motifs within Grčićʼs poetry, either as parts of a ritual, images of nature or symbols of a dearly departed loved one, which we wanted to shed light on in this paper
