Abstract: The subject of this research includes images of stone in the poetry of Laza Kostić, as well as landscapes of nature that are related to stone or rocky landscapes. By applying the literary-theoretical and literary-historical methodology, this work sheds light on the poetic and historical context of both the epoch of Serbian romanticism and the poetic opus of Laza Kostić. With the help of the ideological assumptions of Georges Poulet's phenomenology and Gaston Bachelard's materialist philosophy, the relations between the romantic subject and the world, and the lyrical subject and the darling, mediated by the imagination of stone, were examined. We conclude that the poetic images of stone in Kostić's poetry are extremely layered, symbolically polyvalent and subject to significant semantic transformations.
