Title: Ekspresivne jezičke strukture u prenošenju tuđeg govora u engleskom i srpskom
Authors: Karavesović, Dejan
Issue Date: 2020
Abstract: The paper investigates expressive elements and circumstances under which they occur within the struc- tures that convey somebody else’s verbal contentin the English and Serbian languages. What is particularly investigated in the paper is the level of incorporation of the expressive elements in the clause structure, or more precisely the level of syntactic acceptability of expressive constructions in the domain of reported speech. The analysis has been conducted primarily on the lexical level, while the occurrence of the structural expressives has only been observed. Primary realizations of direct and indirect speech have been included in the analysis, andit has been established that the realization of the lexical expressive elements is arguably due to the nature of the basic types of reported speech in both languages, while no particular differenciesrelated to the nature of the analysed languages themselves have been determined. Realizationalconstraints concerning expressives have been observed in the indirect speech, while the direct speech exhibits no such limits. The main identified criteria regarding the integration of the expressives in the clause structure include: the level of syntactic autonomy of expressives in the source utterance and the truth-conditional character of the expressives.
