Abstract: The subject of work is the mother and reconsideration the role and function of the mother in the story Mara milosnica by determining and establishing the archetypal figure of the mother. The aim is to point out the psychological-mythological-religious aspects of the mother, using, above all, Jung's theory of archetypes and the myth of Erich Neumann's Great Mother. The theophanic apparition of the Mother of God will, on the basis of the interpretation of the mentioned aspects of the research, enable different and new aspects of the interpretation of this story. Goal will be to point out the transfiguration of the Great Mother, Mother Earth in the appearance of the Mother of God, while the symbolic and sacred indication of her will be interpreted through aspects of matriarchy which, it seems, is extremely oppressed in the story. In addition, through the relationship between Mara and Veli Pasha, we will point out the struggle between the Female and Male Principles, but also how the Mother of God can be seen as the final superiority and victory of matriarchy and the Female Principle in the nineteenth-century war world that greatly despised women. The mother - by that means Marina's mother and the Mother of God - will be considered through psychological, mythological and symbolic aspects, and in that way we will structure the form of work
