Abstract: The focus of the paper is the language of statutes of higher education institutions established by the Republic of Serbia, within the legal language of administration. The goal is to examine the nominalization processes which mark the language as bureaucratic. The main task here is to investigate into nominalization processes, such as decomposition and explicit categorisation, that are a part of context-dependent characteristics of these texts. Therefore, our approach to the analysis is structural-syntactic and functional-stylistic. Our hypothesis is that these texts exhibit high level of patternization in terms of nominalization as means of text construction, leading to language bureaucratization. The research conducted points to a great number of nominalizeed expressions – verbal, nominal, adjectival and adverbial, which are, at the same time, markers of administrative style – hence should not be always judged negatively, but rather as a characteristic of the specialized language in question.
