Title: Pojmovna metafora i nastava vokabulara stranog jezika: pregled dosadašnjih istraživanja
Authors: Janevska, Tamara
Issue Date: 2021
Abstract: Starting from the premise that metaphor is deeply rooted in the human conceptual system, an abundance of research has been conducted on the theory of conceptual metaphor itself. The process of analyzing diverse source and target domains has in turn led some of the researchers to question its contribution to the teaching process. Hence, in this paper we seek to present the way in which the current research has applied the tenets of conceptual metaphor. The aim of the paper is to collect as much research as possible and indicate the significance of incorporating conceptual metaphor into future teaching practice. Given that most of the recently published research papers stress its contribution to vocabulary acquisition, we have decided to confine our attention to the relationship between conceptual metaphor and vocabulary teaching. The results confirm that long-term exposure to metaphorical input improves not only students’ vocabulary retention but also fosters discovery learning and enhances general linguistic production thus supporting the hypothesis that conceptual metaphor should become an integral part of foreign language teaching process
