Abstract

The Directive on package travel and linked travel arrangements, adopted in November 2015, is based on the key elements of the Directive that originates from 1990, which it had replaced. The important novelties brought by the new Directive entail the enhancement of the level of consumer protection, as well as taking into consideration new business models of online reservations for the combinations of travel services. Another novelty concerns the regulation of linked travel arrangements. However, despite the fact that the Directive is still relatively recent, particularly having in mind that the Member States were obliged to transpose it by the 1st January 2018 and to enter the new transposed rules into force since the 1st July 2018, the preceding period of its implementation, and especially the “COVID period” indicated the need for the revision of the Directive. Such revision was scheduled for the fourth quartal of 2022 but the European Commission has not published a proposal yet.
