Agriculture is a crucial sector for economic growth and development in the Western Balkans and it plays a significant role in the economy of this region, providing livelihoods for a significant portion of the population and contributing to the region's overall economic development. However, the sector is facing a range of challenges that threaten its long-term sustainability, including environmental degradation, climate change, and social and economic inequality. To address these challenges, a green economy and sustainable development perspective can provide a framework for promoting agricultural development while preserving the region's natural resources and improving social equity. This perspective emphasizes the importance of environmentally friendly and socially responsible agricultural practices, as well as the need for sustainable resource management and the development of renewable energy sources. In this paper, it will be explored the challenges and opportunities for implementing a green economy and sustainable development perspective in the agricultural sector in the Western Balkans. It will be examined the potential for developing sustainable agricultural practices, promoting renewable energy sources, improving resource efficiency and enhancing social equity in the sector. Analysis will draw on a range of literature sources, including case studies, policy papers and academic research. It will be examined best practices and successful examples from other regions and countries, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities that exist in the Western Balkans. Ultimately, the aim is to provide insights and recommendations for policymakers, agricultural practitioners and other stakeholders on how to promote sustainable agricultural development in the region. By leveraging the principles of a green economy and sustainable development, it can be ensured that agriculture in the Western Balkans continues to be a vital and sustainable source of economic growth and development for generations to come.en_US
