Abstract: Services of general economic interest are classified as a specific and very important group of services for the consumer, the creator of services, and for the state. It is a category of services that are provided with indirect or direct participation of the state, with appropriate compensation and continuously, with the primary goal of satisfying the general interest. In the Republic of Serbia, services of general economic interest are regulated by the Law on Consumer Protection, which contains a certain minimum of rules that apply to all services of general economic interest, rules that regulate the relationship between consumers and traders, but also special rights that protect consumers, as economic weaker contracting parties. In the paper, the author analyzes the concept of services of general economic interest and points out their importance in modern economies, and deals with the interpretation of special consumer rights and guarantees provided by the regulatory framework.
