Abstract: The paper discusses the assumption of the existence of a developmental phase of Judaism in which it was close to the matriarchy, based on gynecological biblical figures (Wisdom, the Queen of Heaven, Miriam, Mary the Virgin and the Woman Dressed in the Sun). The Christian tradition, largely preserved in Orthodox liturgical hymnography, provides a broad insight into the matriarchal base of Mariology. Thus, the Mother of God is associated with archetypal motifs of the sun, moon, vessels, water, earth, sitting, plants, animals, weaving, mill, and all the characteristics that Erich Neumann recognizes as belonging to the Great Mother, the matriarchal goddess.
