This paper gives survey of light materials characteristics for manufacture of particular carbody elements made of such materials: high strength steels and new Al-alloys. Also, some directions of the development in the area of deep drawing process control are given, first of all, control of blank holding force in forming. Considering the specific demands regarding the carbody stiffness, formability elements of so called "tailored" sheet metals are given, i.e. formability elements of previously cut out sheet metal elements of various thickness, which are after laser welding joined together into undivided blank, ready for deep drawing. For some of designating researching areas, the results of proper researches are given.en_US
