Abstract: The representative function ensures the unity of action of the parliament - as the central institution of democracy and the elected body that represents all the structures of society that has the unique responsibility to harmonize all conflicting interests and expectations of different groups and communities through democratic dialogue and compromise. Along with the legal definition of the representative function, the analysis and review of the constitutional and legal regulations as well as different theoretical viewpoints and understandings about the nature of the parliamentary mandate, an element of the electoral process, the subject of the author's analysis is the necessity of creating and fostering a constitutional and political culture that implies supplementing legal and political responsibilities, interested and informed voters, the existence of trust between citizens and representatives, and raising awareness of the responsibility of both voters and representatives.
