Abstract

The paper provides an overview, primarily following the chronological principle, of the study of the relationship between functionally-semantically equivalent multi-lexical and single-lexical adverbial units, with a reference to related phenomena associated with other types of words. The study reveals that multi-lexical equivalents of adverbs have been a focal point in Serbian linguistics, or at the very least, have been observed in diverse contexts since Vukćs Pismenica. However, a criterion-based and systematic study of these relationships emerges significantly later.
