Abstract: The IC engines represent an irreplaceable drive unit for passenger cars for decades. One of the vital parts of the engine is a crankshaft. Durability and reliability are the characteristics expected from the crankshaft. The crankshaft is manufactured, like any other machine part, of the specific material of certain characteristics. Accordingly, the characteristics of the part are the same as the characteristics of the material. The aim of the paper is to determine the stresses in the crankshaft during operation when it is subjected to dynamic loading. The values of pressure in the cylinder were obtained experimentally. In order to determine the values of forces acting on the crankshaft, dynamic engine calculation using the Matlab software package based on experimental data is performed. A model was developed in the Autodesk Inventor software package, and on the basis of the obtained forces, a numerical analysis in the ANSYS software package was performed, in order to determine whether the stresses are critical to the reliability of the crankshaft.
