Abstract: | In the paper, the author provides an analysis of the origin and functioning of two special judicial instances in nineteenth-century France - peace courts and industrial tribunals. In the conditions of the Revolution and the ban on professional associations of workers and employers on the one hand, and high court fees before regular courts on the other hand, there was a need for an instance that would resolve disputes between workers and employers quickly, simply and cheaply. Peace courts and industrial tribunals were created to fill that hole in the judicial system of France at the time. By analyzing legal and by-law acts, as well as literature of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, the author presents the way of creation and functioning, the social importance of these institutions and their similarities and differences. |
