Abstract: | The Tales of an Old Grandmother (1918) by Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953), the piece deeply woven into the bases of the Russian folklore musical heritage, can be marked as multiple important. Although in musicological circles defined as a kind of a „replica” of the composer’s earlier, youthful achievements, which are written during his studies in Russia – far from the avangarde style which will, especially during his stay abroad, follow (1918–1932) – the paper raises the question to what extent it paved the way for the formation of the tonality of the composer’s mature creative phase, created after the return to the USSR, in the thirties of the 20th cetury. On the other hand, to what extent it strengthened the bases of the phenomenon of the fairy tale, that is the story presented in the works from the mature cretive phase of this composer? How much the leading stars, the codes in us, write the path of our „return” to our Being, that we consciously speak the language conceived in the cradle of our existence? What is their strength that after years of searching, experimenting, searching for the essence of our Being, show us the path that we, once upon a time, intuitively followed, the path that once upon a time we started the circle of our cognition? The Tales od an Old Grandmother shine like a stars, smolder and unobtrusively „keep” the codes in us – not to be deleted, not to be canceled, that they direct us to the final point of our initial search. The paper examines the possibility of the perceiving of the development of the Prokofiev’s tonality in the 1930s through the sporadic „indications” of the representative concept of the triad in the context of the specific leading realations, but also, at the same time, the multiple, archetypal significance of the (Russian) fairy tale/story, that is through the direct inspiration from the folklore musical heritage. |
