Abstract: The research is based on the analysis of astral symbols in the poetry of Vasko Popa and Miodrag Pavlović, with special reference to their mythic-folkloric subtext. The poetic, essayistic and anthological oeuvre of the two poets is viewed in a unique conceptual framework, based on mythic-anthropological recognition. By analyzing the verses of these two poets, one can recognize, namely, new poetic cosmogonies, based on the one hand in folklore tradition, creativity and mythology, and on the other hand, in modernist poetics. When identifying the elements of folk belief, mythical representations and folklore patterns that are integrated into their poetry through astral representations, in the foreground are those celestial phenomena that are often present in folklore as anthropomorphized entities with a pronounced mythic religious meaning such as the Sun, the Moon, the Star of Danica . Transformed in a new context, they become the means of expressing the deep poetic-poetic and philosophical concepts of these two poets. Through the folklore subtext, astral mythical figures in the poetry of Serbian modernism acquire additional symbolic and cultural value, contributing to the expansion of the meaningful horizon of poetic works and their place in Serbian literature.
