Abstract: Literary texts for children and young adults can play a significant role in the socialization of reading in a foreign language. Drawing on students’ life experiences, they can stimulate an interest in reading and contribute to the acquisition of the ability to read whole books in a foreign language, to the development of new reading strategies, and the acquisition of discursive, cultural, and socio-critical communicative competences. Furthermore, future German language teachers should be encouraged to introduce literature (for children and youth) into their own teaching and inspire motivation for reading among their pupils. These are the goals of the applied teaching approach. Using analytical, productive and theater-pedagogical methods in working with texts for children within the subject of German literature for children and youth, during the third semester of the academic year 2022/2023, we attempted to investagate whether the established outcomes were achieved.
