Abstract: | The aim of this paper is to study the practical aspects of teaching administrative and legal registers of Serbian as a foreign language at a Polish university. We organized a two-hour workshop that handled the topic of writing a CV and motivational letter. The workshop was conducted at the Institute for Slavic Languages at the Faculty of Philology, University of Wroclaw (Poland). The participants were students of master’s studies in Serbian and Croatian philology. The paper consists of two parts. The first part focuses on the methodological aspects connected with the organization of the workshop, while the second part centers on the analysis of the products that were the end results of the students’ efforts. This analysis was conducted via the qualitative-descriptive method and the method of content analysis. We can conclude that the students demonstrated a strong command of the administrative register. They had a firm grasp of the format of the motivational letter and the CV, whereby the feedback the students got from the tutors contributed greatly to their understanding. This way of teaching proved itself to be effective when students were endeavoring to acquire practical business and communication skills. On the other hand, in a certain number of students we noted mistakes that were traced down to both the format of the document and the language that was employed. |
