Abstract: | In this paper, the author analyzes the impact of digitalization on human trafficking, with a particular focus on new methods of victim recruitment that have developed in the context of the mass use of the internet and digital technologies. After an introductory discussion highlighting the widespread nature of human trafficking and the increasing trend of this negative phenomenon, the author defines the concept of human trafficking, examines its key elements and forms, following the Palermo Protocol and the Council of Europe Convention on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings. In the central part of the paper, the author analyzes the impact of digitalization on human trafficking, focusing on the two most common forms of exploitation: labor and sexual. The author explains how the process of digitalization affects human trafficking for labor exploitation, with a particular focus on digital platforms that enable job advertisements. The paper then moves on to analyze the impact of digitalization on human trafficking for sexual exploitation, discussing the role of social networks and the digital environment in the process of recruitment, control, and exploitation of victims, and providing suggestions and concluding remarks on the subject matter. |
