Abstract: The insurance policy is a document that certifies the conclusion of an insurance contract. This paper provides a detailed legal analysis of the life insurance policy, with a focus on its definition, types, essential components, functions, and legal nature. Special attention is given to issues related to the transfer, pledge, and legal effects of the policy. Furthermore, the paper explores the position of the policy within comparative legal systems and the proposals set forth in the Draft Civil Code of the Republic of Serbia. The relationship between the electronic form of the insurance policy and the traditional written form is also analyzed, establishing a defined and specific connection between the two. Through the analysis of both theoretical and practical aspects, the paper highlights the multiple functions of a life insurance policy and its role as evidence of contract, contractual form, and a potential instrument of financial security.
