GRAMMATICALIZATION AND OTHER RELATED PROCESSES

Abstract

The paper analyzes grammaticalization in the context of and in relation to other processes‒such as, on the one hand, decomposition, creating multi-lexical units (e.g. complex conjunctions, adverbial expressions, complex prepositions, etc.), and, on the other hand, univerbation and word-merging. The analysis incorporates the terminological and methodological system used in the studies and linguistic literature on the Serbian language. Research papers, directly or indirectly related to this topic, are used as the primary corpus. The main idea is to provide some insight into the processes that are gradual and that diverge or converge with the theory of grammaticalization. In this sense, the paper does not bring novel insights but rather provides an overview of available literature.
