The considerable importance of electronic government for the present and future of the state and society necessitates a thorough theoretical and practical approach encompassing the definition of the very concept of electronic government, as well as its role and significance for the modern state and society. To that end, this paper provides a brief overview of its historical development in order to enable the reader to understand how the current state of affairs has been reached and which potential future directions of development may be realised. The paper is primarily focused on a scholarly legal analysis of the fundamental elements, institutions, and manifestations of electronic government. Its aim is to highlight the breadth and significance of electronic government as a relatively new phenomenon both globally and within the domestic legal system, and thereby to offer a modest contribution and a starting point for future academic and professional research, projects, and considerations concerning this social and legal phenomenon.en_US
