Abstract: The paper presents the basic elements of work with musically gifted students in lower elementary grades. There are numerous factors that determine the development of musical giftedness and the possibilities of adapting teaching music to the needs of gifted students. The aim of the research was to determine the following theoretical aspects: identification of musical talent, knowledge about the characteristics of its development, teacher’s creativity in designing and selecting musical contents and activities intended for talented students. The descriptive method and the analysis of the relevant literature were applied. It is concluded that the theoretical aspects concerning the importance and particular characteristics of working with musically gifted students can serve as a guideline for teachers to use different strategies in teaching music and adopt innovative teaching methods which would improve students’ achievements in music
