Title: Computational Modeling of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
Authors: Filipovic, Nenad
Issue Date: 2021
Abstract: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a dilation of the aorta beyond 50% of the normal vessel diameter that is frequently observed in the aging population and it affects 6-9% of the people in the industrialized world. This study reviews some of the computational methods in the diagnosis and treatment of AAA. We presented a literature survey on AAA biomechanics reported by several aspects from experimental tissue test including our own experimental testing, constitutive model, and intraluminal thrombus (ILT). Our finite element model with fluid-structure interaction approach with the computational study of the aneurismatic pathology is presented. Computational methods have made possible the patient-specific analyses, a feature essential for understanding the progression of AAA in a particular patient. Finally, future clinical decision support system is suggested by using data mining approach.
