Issue Date: 2016
Abstract: This paper presents a description of two examples of research related to photovoltaic cells and the results of the optimization of the size of the overhangs with photovoltaic panels for different combinations of houses. all the houses have overhangs covered by photovoltaic panels. They are simulated and optimized by using EnergyPlus and Hooke Jeeves algorithm. Then, optimal depths of the overhangs are found. The objective function servers to minimize the primary energy for heating and cooling of the house, and amount of embodied energy in overhangs and photovoltaic panels. results show that overhangs depth depends on their orientation.
