Abstract: The results of the application of welding simulation models are highly dependent on the input parameters, particularly on the parameters of the heat source model. In this study, a method for determining the heat source parameters for a three-dimensional quasi-stationary heat transfer model for gas metal arc welding is presented. The commonly used double-ellipsoidal heat source has five input parameters, the values of which are mainly chosen based on the researcher's experience. This approach is a common source of error; to estimate these values, we applied a calibration procedure using the Taguchi method with combined objective function based on weld geometry. The simulation results show that the Taguchi method can be successfully used to determine the heat source parameters.
