Abstract: This paper proposes the application of biologically -inspired algorithms to determine optimal parameters of metal cutting. The objective functions are operation time, cost per product, and surface roughness. Model of metal cutting is non-linear, constrained problem. As an example of biologically -inspired algorithm for solving optimization problems, in this paper we have applied the Cuckoo search algorithm, and the Firefly algorithm. Contemporary analysis of these two methods, as well as their hybridization and the experimental results show that the use of biologically -inspired algorithms is applicable to parameter problems optimization of metal cutting.
