Abstract: | Wear of various elements and parts of a vehicle can be a significant source of particles that the vehicle emits into the environment. The largest source of particles, until recently, was the engine, but with its equipment, the engine became one of the smaller pollutants. One of the important sources of particles on the vehicle is a braking system. The braking system on some vehicles is the largest and most important source of particles, and these are mainly vehicles that do not have internal combustion engines, but electric motors (electric vehicles) or hybrid vehicles. The aim of this paper is to, based on available literature and research by other authors, to review the results obtained by investigating the influence of brakes on the generation of particles of different diameters, as well as the conditions under which this analysis of the size and method of the particles formed from the braking system has been carried out. The benefits of this paper are that based on the obtained results, we can compare the results that will be obtained in the various investigations of the formation of particles by the brakes, and also to develop new ideas and possibilities for testing the influence of brakes or friction brake elements. Either way, today brakes on vehicles represent a significant source of particles, so in the future, the number of particles created could be reduced using the modern materials, but it would also be possible to introduce legal regulations related to non-exhaust particles produced by brake. |
