Abstract: Environmental protection is one of the most current topics of today’s civilization, and the world faces this problem daily. Road traffic is a significant source of environmental pollution. Increasing living standard and mobility of people have led to an increasing number of vehicles. The emission that occurs during the operation of a vehicle is very harmful to human health, as well as to the environment. What is the share of vehicles in the total emissions of certain substances within anthropogenic sources on the territory of the Republic of Serbia for 2016 will be shown in this paper. In addition, a comparative overview of the number of registered vehicles and the emissions occurring during the operation of the vehicles for the period 2001-2016 will be given. By analysing the collected data, it can be concluded that even if the number of vehicles increased for the observed period, the emissions decreased, except for particles and ammonia.
