Abstract: | This paper examines the concept of space in the novel Vladimir from the Strange Story (Vladimir iz čudne priče) by Gordana Timotijević. The analysis results show that the narrative structure of the novel is built by duplicating fictional worlds through the insertion of stories within stories. There is also an intertwining of stories and a crossing of boundaries from one fictional space to another, as well as an intersection of different temporal perspectives and a shifting of roles between the narrator and the main character, which results in the interweaving of fictional spaces. Additionally, the stories have their own distinct spaces (natural and urban, city and rural, Europea, and national) and, beyond that, correspond with the broader context, suggesting their interpretation within a cultural frame work and introducing new spaces. The conclusions indicate that the play with space and its multidimensionality in Gordana Timotijević’s novel enable different levels of reception and can raise numerous questions regarding further problematization in the process of interpreting this literary work. |
