Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present the design of the experiment to determine the most influential factors on the occurrence of non‐exhaust emissions of PM2.5 and PM10 particles, namely those caused by vehicle’s brake wear. The focus in this case is on the operating parameters of the braking process (vehicle speed, brake pressure and vehicle load), ambient conditions (temperature and air humidity), but also output factors (brake pad temperature at the end of braking, braking torque, braking time, deceleration) and analysis of their connection with the formation of particles. The experimental research was carried out on an inertial brake dynamometer. Classical experiment planning is sometimes too complex and time‐consuming, so in the case when the number of factors increases, it is necessary to perform a large number of experimental tests. Experiment planning is a method by which the optimal formula of all influential parameters is found, and as such it represents a very important tool that can be used to respond to a well‐defined research goal. The basic idea of a planned experiment is to define a minimal set of experiments in which each factor will be varied in a systematic way.
